The Batman, explained.

The Rolex “Batman” is a GMT-Master II with a blue-and-black Cerachrom bezel, named for the colour scheme. It debuted as the 116710BLNR in 2013; the current 126710BLNR (2019) runs calibre 3285. On a Jubilee bracelet the same watch is nicknamed the “Batgirl.”

Below: what makes the Batman (126710BLNR) distinctive, what to verify before buying, and how it fits the Naples collector scene.

The Batman was the first GMT-Master II to wear a two-colour Cerachrom bezel, solving the long-standing problem of fusing two ceramic colours in a single insert. Blue and black proved easier to combine than red and blue, so the Batman arrived (2013) five years before the ceramic steel Pepsi.

The original 116710BLNR came only on an Oyster bracelet. The 2019 126710BLNR added a Jubilee option, and collectors promptly named the Jubilee version the “Batgirl.”

What to verify

Checking a Batman before you buy.

  • Distinguish the BLNR (blue/black) from the BLRO (Pepsi) and ensure the bezel is ceramic.
  • Identify whether it is the 116710BLNR (2013–2019, calibre 3186) or the 126710BLNR (2019–, calibre 3285).
  • On a Jubilee bracelet, confirm it is a genuine 126710 “Batgirl,” not an aftermarket bracelet swap.
  • Check serial and card against the stated production window.

In Naples

The Batman around Naples.

The Batman is the understated GMT — blue and black read as dressier than the Pepsi, which suits Naples evenings as easily as the boat. Both the Oyster Batman and the Jubilee Batgirl circulate locally; the Jubilee versions tend to command a small premium.

Batman FAQ

The Batman, answered.

What is the difference between the Batman and the Batgirl?

When did the Batman come out?

The original Batman, reference 116710BLNR, launched in 2013 as the first ceramic two-colour GMT-Master II. The current 126710BLNR arrived in 2019 with calibre 3285.

Is the Batman discontinued?

No. The blue-and-black GMT-Master II remains in the current Rolex catalogue as the 126710BLNR, offered on both Oyster and Jubilee bracelets.
